Although commonly used for period protection, trying-to-conceive (TTC) couples have discovered a new use for the Softcup - as a fertility aid!

Softcup fertility success stories are now so commonplace that Instead has filed for FDA clearance to officially market the Softcups as a conception aid.

As a fertility aid, the
rationale behind the Softcup is simple: Following lovemaking, the Softcup is
used as a reservoir to hold semen and sperm close to the cervix. The cervix
is the channel that sperm must pass through to reach the uterus and fertilize
the egg. Thus, the Softcup may work as a fertility aid by helping pool sperm
around the cervix.
Instructions
for Using the Softcup
For TTC couples, the
Softcup can be inserted after procreative lovemaking while the semen is
near the cervix to promote conception. Alternately, the Softcup may be
inserted with semen directly deposited in the Softcup reservoir. Note
that the Softcups cannot be re-used and should not be worn for more than
12 hours. For TTC application, only a fraction of that time is required.
Using the Instead Softcup, like anything, requires just a bit of getting used to. That means
it might be a bit awkward at first and take a moment or two of practice
to insert the Softcup properly and comfortably. Below are some basic learning
tips - and please see our diagram to the right. A complete instructional guide comes with each Softcup order.
- Unlike tampons, when inserting the Softcup, PUSH BACK - and not up - for correct Softcup placement.
- To insert the Softcup,
ensure that the hands are clean. Squeeze the Softcup by compressing
the opposite sides of the rim together.
- Keeping the rims pinched
together, insert into the vagina as far back as it will go and place
under the cervix and behind the pubic bone. Complete instructions provide
detailed step by step help.
- When removing the
Softcup, use your middle finger to gently hook under the Softcup rim.
When you are ready to remove the Softcup, avoid pulling the cup straight
down. Instead, keep the cup level to the floor to avoid spilling any
contents.
- For use as feminine
protection instead of a tampon, the Instead Softcup can often be worn
twice as long as a tampon.
- The Softcups cannot be re-used and should not be worn for more than 12 hours. For
use as a fertility aid, only a fraction of that time should be required.

So when i first read all these reviews i didn't think that it really was that awesome. I figured the same people wrote the reviews or something like that (because everyone gave it such a good review). But i figured i'd try it out myself. Softcup has been an amazing product for me with so many uses but one special one in particular.I wanted to share my personal story of pregnancy success as my DH and I are ecstatic and we believe completely that a product called Instead Softcup is responsible for our success. I know how many women are struggling with getting pregnant, and if I can offer any hope or ideas of things to try, I just want to put it out there. We just gave birth to our second child in November, 2008. Back in 2004, DH and I had been spoiled when we conceived on the first try with our now 3 year old DD. When we started trying for #2 last August (07), I think we subconsciously thought - "oh this will be easy." Well, fast forward nearly 6 months and no positive pregnancy test. We are talking ovulation monitoring, EVERYTHING. Granted, I am now 35 and obviously our lives are a bit more stressful with work, having a toddler, etc. But still, it was becoming frustrating, especially feeling that we were doing everything we could do to "time" things right. Also, we knew in our heads that 5 months wasn't THAT long a time to try, but as I mentioned, we were eager, and our past experience made us impatient. We were truly becoming burnt out when a friend of mine mentioned that she was working with a company who had a product that had been getting a reputation on blogs and fertility message boards for helping women to conceive. Of course, having serious baby on the brain and desperate to try anything, I went home and Googled it and low and behold, many, many stories on other blogs from women who had had success conceiving with the help of the Instead Softcup. My friend gave me some samples so we thought, what do we have to lose? The next ovulation period, immediately after BD-ing, (meaning I had it on the nightstand ready and inserted it right away), we used Softcup. We used it twice that month and two weeks later, got the wonderful POSITIVE pregnancy test we have been waiting for! Again, I just wanted to share our success in the hopes that it can help other couples struggling to get that positive test themselves. I was lucky to have a friend turn me on to Softcups, but I have found out that they can be purchased at many drug stores, Wal Mart, and online at www.softcup.com, but I just heard that Target may not be carrying them anymore which is VERY disappointing as I know that they would be of value to SO many women- anyways, they are in the feminine products section, because their intended use is an alternative to tampons (which by the way they are great for too!). Don't be deterred by what they look like (literally like a bendable soft cup), as they are easy to use, VERY comfortable and most importantly SAFE (I have researched and gotten inside info from my friend who has insider knowledge because of the work arrangement). I seen these online about a year ago and they completely grossed me out so i didnt look back at them. a friend of mine got pregnant so i asked her what she did and if she had any tips she could give me. she told me about this cup and my eyes lit up!!! she explained the process and me having baby fever i went to walmart that day and bought some. a box of 14 cost me 5.41. i went home and looked at the cup and was scared as ever! i decided to insert it just to see what it felt like and much to my surprise, i felt nothing!!! i was soooooo excited!!! so when my period came along a few days later i tracked my fertility through my cervical mocus. i put the cup in with my partners sperm of course at night and took out in the morning when i woke up. i did this for a total of 4 days starting before and up untill 1 day after ovulation. 3 WEEKS LATER....... no period!!! I GOT MY BFP!!!! I completely am convinced that the cup has all the credit to take. i was TTC for 4 yrs before the cup and 1 month with the cup and i got pregnant!! i am over weight and dont really work out as i should but it still worked!! i would recommend this product 100% to anyone TTCing. give it a try u have nothing to lose!! |

It was always horizontal no matter how careful and how long i played to get the thing in the right spot. I was concerned that using the Instead cup would be difficult to insert and position, a worry that only got worse after I looked at the instructions and saw that they specified how to insert the cup while sitting up. Since I was using it as a fertility aid, I needed to insert it while lying down. But it ended up being very easy to use, though there is something a little scary about feeling something just sort of disappear up there (but it was easy to get out the next morning). No idea if it made a difference yet, but they're a lot more user-friendly than I thought they'd be. |

I'm a single woman who has wanted to be a mom for a long time...after trying IUI for 2 months with no luck at a doctor's office, and then ICI once at home with no luck, I moved on to using the Instead Softcup as fertility aid. It was super easy to use and position (I thought the instructions were really clear, and don't know how you could put it in wrong)...and guess what, I got pregnant using frozen donor sperm and the Instead Softcup. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 13 months now. We recently saw a fertilty specialist who strongly recommended IVF due to my husband's low sperm count :( Well, when you don't have the money to put out for IVF, you begin to look for other, less expensive, and less clinical ways to conceive a child (I'm sure that alot of you ladies know where I am coming from). I will (as usual) be using my fertility monitor and Pre-Seed, and for the first time ever, I will be trying Instead. TTC 2nd baby for 9 months (now 9wks pg). We were getting a little discouraged since 1st child only took 2 months (yes, I know it is pretty normal). I found out about using the softcup as a fertility aid, just by searching for fertility aids in google. Am I ever glad I did! I purchased 2 packages, and planned to use them right away. I don't know why I didn't, but they sat in a drawer for 2 cycles. We have been TTC for 11 months, and had a miscarriage within the first 2 months.. then nothing since. Last cycle, I tried the softcups for the first time (along with the ovulation test strips found on this site!). They were inexpensive, surprisingly easy to insert and kept everything nice and clean after the "deed", too! I am happy to report that I just recieved a positive on a home pregnancy test 2 days ago! I read the testimonials on here, and found it so hard to believe that so many got pregnant the first time trying them, but here I am in the same position! I can't even believe it! I read all these reviews and thought it was all WAY too good to be true, but I had to try them. I, like many others, have used softcup for my period in the past and never thought to try it when we were TTC. It took 18 months, clomid, metformin, and femara to have my DD. So I figured we were in for a long haul after 12 months went by and no BFP. Ordered softcups thinking it was worth a shot and only used them twice after getting an LH surge. I read all the reviews like everyone else. Nearly all of them claimed to get pregnant the first month. I found it hard to believe but I decided to try it out. While I agree it is a great idea, it keeps the semen pooled where it needs to be, it is not the "miracle" that the majority of the reviews will have you believe. I have been using them along with ovulation prediction kits and pre-seed for 4 months now with no success. I have been ttc for 15 months now. Buyer beware. It really is a small price to pay for something that MIGHT work for you, but don't get your hopes up. |

I was a skeptic I really was, I have been TTC for 8 months now charts using OPK's I finally decided to give up. I said I will buy myself a one month supply of OPK's and thought what the heck ill try the soft cups. Well we BD two days before my O date missed the day before and the day of and the day after I figured I had no chance this cycle, but here I sit at 10 DPO with a BFP! I have never seen these before and i read all the reviews. I am just starting my TTC road, but these were so easy to use! At first i didn't think i could use them but the first time after BDing i got up with one foot on the bed and slid one in and didn't feel it! Nothing leaked out, course DH's stuff doesn't run for a few mins any way, but i didn't even feel it. We had to go out first thing in the morning to run errends. Never felt it, and no leaks. Thought it would be a problem because of a tilted cervex, but it was not for me. Thanks for offering this product. I will purches again until BFP!! |

After trying to conceive for a year, I discovered online that these cups have helped others conceive. My husband and I were willing to try anything! We used them everytime we tried during my ovulation this last cycle. A week later I got the results of some tests we had done by the fertility specialist. It turned out my husband had low sperm motility, only 18% and we were put on the waiting list to consult about IVF. Well, much to my surprise, my period was 3 days late and I took a test this morning, it's POSITIVE!!! I truly believe we owe it all to these softcups. This was an interesting product. My husband and I are ttc again and I decided to give these a try after all the positive reviews. The first night following IC, I found it very easy to insert and it was comfortable, however, when I woke up in the morning, I was MISERABLE! I was so incredibly itchy and had to remove it right away. It felt like I had a terrible yeast infection. I took some natural steps for yeast infection treatment and was comfortable again after a couple of days. Thinking it might be a one-time occurrence, I tried it again on TWO other occasions and ended up removing it in the middle of the night when I felt myself becoming itchy again. I have never had any kind of allergy in my life, but believe that these must be causing SOME kind of allergic reaction in my body, despite the "hypo-allergenic" claim. I'd really like to be able to "try" with them again due to their nice reviews, but will have to pass! |

I fell in love with these the second I put one in. It was a miracle that finally I didn't have to do acrobatics to keep the sperm close to my cervix. I am like most people I've read all these really good reveiws and I'm like, yep... looks like these reveiws were all written by the same person. Everyone is having luck. Well, I lost a baby in May, I was in my 2nd trimester, I have endometriosis VERY bad and I'm taking Clomid 100 mg. cd 5-9 . I was walking through Wal-Mart going to get some tampons and there they were. the Instead cups. I've NEVER seen them before in my life lol so it was pretty funny. Well we bought them, now I'm just waiting until time to put them to good use and then I will DEFINITELY be back to let you know the outcome. So far we have had 3 rounds of Clomid, no luck, and we've been trying to conceive again since May 09. Wish us luck!!! |

My Husband and I have been TTC for about 4 months now but after the second month he started having trouble holding an erection. I started reading success stories online about the Instead cups and we finally decided to try them this month and I'm glad we did because I am now pregnant !! We went the Insemination route where he deposited into the cup then I inserted day before ovulation, day of and day after ovulation. I have watched 6, yes 6 of my friends get pregnant on accident within the first 4 months of TTC. It hurts! This month I have done a few things different. # 1, I have quit smoking. The second is I started charting my BBT. And 3rd My husband & I used Instead Softcups. I used them 3 days before OV, the day of & the day after. I also used an OVPK. We would do the BD at night and he would ejaculated in the cup so it wouldn't get everywhere. They were very easy to use!!! And not at all messy. I put it in afterwards and went to sleep with it in. Never felt it inside me. It was so comfortable. I would have it in for 10 - 12 hours. Anyway I put this up because I have read about all these women using the Instead Softcups for TTC and getting pregnant in the first month of using these Softcups. I am a skeptic. I had this sitting in my bathroom for almost a year beucase i purchased it for mentrual while I was on a vacation. I just read all the reviews and will be posting soon for TTC purposes. I used for first time 1/21/10, so we will see if I get a + preg test. The only complaint I have is removing it. I had to read in the internet alternative ways to take out.. Advise.. Squad on floor as if you are going #2, insert your finger, you will feel it but still cant reach it, push as if you are going #2, and it will be way easier to reach and take out. I stumble upon Instead softcup when I was researching about TTC. We were trying for 4 cycles, no success. We even used, OPK, BBT, OVwatch, everything you name it. DH and I had been TTC for a year and a half with no success and with no real reason why it just wasn't working for us. Charting and temping showed that I had an average luteal phase of only 11 days. I ordered ovulation test strips from here and they were actually much clearer for me to read than drugstore tests (I was using Clear Blue OT's but the lines always were fuzzy/blurry to me). Anyhow, I saw that this site was also selling Instead cups which I already had at home because I sometimes used them for AF. I figured why nhot give it a try. I got a positive OT and did the BD that day and the next and inserted a cup immediately afterwards and left it there for appx 10 hours while I went around my daily business. Thrilled to say that after a year and a half of trying I got my BFP today! Maybe it was just cosmic timing,... but i would still definitely recommend this to anyone has not had any success so far. |

softcup is our last chance before going to IVF, we're booked to start next month. We've been trying for over 2 years with a low sperm count. Lets hope it works. Its hard to put in initially and you have to pretend your pushing out a baby to get it out. I dont recommend having your husband produce semen and then putting it in, way too awquard and messy. I used soft-cups for my periods in the past and after inserting it I noticed that I had a pinchy feeling. I ignored it and after I removed it the pain went away. I used it for the next day and again the pain was there. It was pushing on a nerve and was quite painful. I also used it for fertility but since it can cause a nerve issue, i cannot use it anymore. Just wanted to make sure that it was known that this can happen. I contacted the company and they said that they were aware that this can happen, though it is an uncommon experience. As I said in the title. I got pregnant while using sofcups. I had been ttc for 2 years with no luck and that is why I decided to try these. The bad news is that I miscarried at 7 weeks on 3/16/2010. As soon as I recover from my miscarriage I plan to use these again. The only bad thing that I experienced with these is that after the first time inserting the cup, I thought it was stuck and I couldn't get it out. Now with practice i can get them out. |

I tried to conceive for several months, but because of too much stress, my boyfriend started having an erectile disfunction and couldn't ejaculate inside me. Yet he was fine doing it "outside." After reading the rave reviews here about women trying these and becoming pregnant within the first month (and some after YEARS of infertility) I HAD to try these. Well they did not work for us the first time (which really makes me wonder about these women who claim they been trying for 2-4 years and all of a sudden they became pregnant using these for the first time.....seriously???). But I will probably keep using them for future cycles because the concept makes sense (keeping the sperm close to the cervix). It was interesting to note that this company filed to use and promote these softcups as fertility aid with the Food and Drug Administration in 2006 but they did not get approved. I tried to get more info on it but couldn't find any. It's not to say they can't get approved for it some point in the future. I read the directions and even watched an instructional video on their website about how to properly use it. I found them very easy to insert. Just fold it in half and put in like you would a tampon. We used them right after doing the BD. Since you can keep them in for 12 hours max, I would sleep with it in. Take it out first thing in the morning. Taking them out takes practice but it is not that hard once you get the hang of it. |

My husband and I have been ttc for about a year now with no luck at all. We're both very young (early 20's) and healthy so we didn't think this would be an issue for us, but apparently it is. I saw all these reviews and was admittedly very hesitant, but I thought it was worth a shot. They are cheap and easy to find. The first cycle we tried these I got pregnant, but ended up having a chemical pregnancy. But my RE says the good news is that I got pregnant. Although my pregnancy didn't last, that word "pregnant" on my digital HPT was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and gave me so much hope. The ONLY downside is that I personally had a hard time getting them out the next morning, but this is a small price to pay to get pregnant. I will use these for every cycle from now on. |

This time were planning a pregnancy and the very first month of trying We tried everything I tried using these instead cups everyday during my fertile window after sex. I tried everything else including handstands after and propping my bottom up while I sleep after sex. It didn't work! The only good I can say is the instead cups are so comfortable I'd leave them in over night completely can not feel them and some mornings I almost forgot I was wearing it. Okay ! Okay ! My husband and I have surrendered to the Instead Soft cups ! Been TTC for 9 years with no luck . I've used the cups twice this week already and will do so every night until the end of the week ! So we shall see ! I will update for sure ! For me , they are VERY EASY to use ! After a round of IVF in January 2007 and the resulting twins born in September of that year, we decided to try for just one more baby. This time we decided to do it naturally or not at all, and started trying in January of 2010. Last month was the first month I tried Softcups, and I just got my BFP this morning, 5/2/2010. This product may not be a miracle for everyone, but it is definitely a miracle product for me! I honestly thought I couldn't get pregnant without medical help. I am happy to say that I was completely wrong! |

Me and my DH have beeen ttc for abour 6 years on and off. I have one blocked tube and my husband motility is low. I have pray for many years to conceive again,but I know there is a season for everything and it works in the timming of the lord, cause his time is the best time! Well I happen to one day find this site last mont( a day before or two before fetile days) and just so happen i decided to track my cycle last month so we could get preganat!!! (God is so Good). Well we use them every day during that time, maybe 3 days later my breast staring to get sore, and today im having hot flashes, i really feel preganat !!!! my period is due on the 12 th of may so i will get back and let you all know! but i do suggest any women ttc especial with a spouse with low motility use to use them. |

We started trying to get pregnant again in January of this year. We have IVF twins already, and the fertility specialist never found a reason for our previous trouble conceiving, so we figured we'd do it naturally this time or not at all. I found out about Softcups on this website after I'd gotten my third visit this year from Aunt Flo, and figured "what the heck." So, I tried Softcups with no real expectation that it would actually work. On May 2, the day before I expected my period, I found out I was pregnant again after only one try with Softcups. It worked for me! My natural miracle is due in January. |
