Can Softcup be "used as a reservoir to keep sperm close to the cervix?"

Although commonly used for period protection, trying-to-conceive (TTC) couples appear to have discovered a new use for the Instead Softcup – as a fertility aid!

Softcup fertility success stories are so commonplace now that Instead has filed for FDA clearance to officially market the Softcups as a conception aid.

According to the product’s manufacturer, Softcups are "body friendly and body safe." They have been tested for biocompatibility and are hypoallergenic. In the more than ten years that the product has been on the market, there have been no reported incidences of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Instead was originally designed as an innovative "no strings" and "no wings" alternative to traditional forms of feminine protection.

According to Instead, the makers of the Softcup, trying-to-conceive (TTC) couples were "seeking a simple and affordable option before going to more extreme treatments. [These couples] discovered that the Softcup could be inserted immediately after intercourse to promote conception – and they had amazing success stories to prove it."

Instructions for Using the Softcup

Using the Instead Softcup, like anything, requires just a bit of getting used to. That means it might be a bit awkward at first and take a moment or two of practice to insert the Softcup properly and comfortably. Below are some basic learning tips - and please see our diagram to the right. A complete instructional guide comes with each Softcup order.

  • Unlike tampons, when inserting the Softcup, PUSH BACK - and not up - for correct Softcup placement.

  • To insert the Softcup, ensure that the hands are clean. Squeeze the Softcup by compressing the opposite sides of the rim together.

  • Keeping the rims pinched together, insert into the vagina as far back as it will go and place under the cervix and behind the pubic bone. Complete instructions provide detailed step by step help.

  • When removing the Softcup, use your middle finger to gently hook under the Softcup rim. When you are ready to remove the Softcup, avoid pulling the cup straight down. Instead, keep the cup level to the floor to avoid spilling any contents.

  • For use as feminine protection instead of a tampon, the Instead Softcup can often be worn twice as long as a tampon.

  • The Softcups cannot be re-used and should not be worn for more than 12 hours.

You'll receive your Instead Softcups in discreet packaging with no external indication of the contents (we use the return address of ONLINE STORE) - Click Here to see an example of our packaging). Our tests are "just manufactured" with an expiration date roughly 2 years from your purchase date.

  • A cervical cap alternative to pads or tampons

  • Tested for biocompatibility and are hypoallergenic

  • Cannot be re-used and should not be worn for more than 12 hours

  • Order ships with complete instructions

BFP 1st month after 2.5 years trying
January 30, 2014
My partner and I have been trying for two and a half years. I was 41 when we started dating, so after only six months we went to an IVF doctor. After three rounds of IVF we were told that our chance of having our own child was less than 1% and that we should consider using donor eggs. But I was just convinced that we'd have our own child. We then started researching alternative fertility and began a regimen of weekly acupuncture and a very restricted diet: no wheat, no dairy, no raw food (that's right no salads), no cold food, and lots of other more complex things about what to eat pre- and post-ovulation. So it's hard to say that it was just the softcup...but it is pretty amazing that the first time we tried using it, we got the BFP. I am 44 years old and he is 41 and neither of us has ever had kids, so we are absolutely thrilled! Fantastic product. I hope it gets approved for fertility/conception soon.

This Works!!
September 23, 2013
I am 38 yrs old, TTC, convinced I was going to have to do IUI or IVF. I read about soft cup and BAM.... 1st time trying using this product and BFP!!! I also used Mucinex for 1 week before ovulation and Preseed in the soft cup before putting it in me. DH finished inside me....THEN I slid in the soft cup and kept it in overnight. AMAZING. I'm still can't believe it actually worked!! I am convinced it was with the help of soft cup that I was able to get pregnant.
Pros:
Comfortable and IT WORKS!!! If you are TTC ...you MUST try this product!!

Even more amazing than previously thought!
September 5, 2013
I always had very heavy flow and I wanted a feminine product safer than tampons and less disgusting than pads. Over a decade ago, at age 18, my sister introduced me to Instead's Softcup. Never leaked, discrete, cleaner trash, no odor. Instant, loyal user. I have had three children since I started using the softcup and it still works great. We've been trying for quite a while to get pregnant with our final addition; last night I came across the softcup as a conception tool. I read all the reviews and comments last night and they were so positive, I thought I'd try it. I got a positive this morning! All I did was READ about it! Ok... maybe it was a coincidence...
Pros:
NO odor, comfortable (can't feel it, almost have to set a reminder to take it out!), clean trash (especially if you rinse it out before throwing it away), reliable, safe, multi-purpose. High capacity.
Cons:
The benefits outweigh by far, but yes, it can be a bit messy to remove. That's why we have soap and water.

Got remarried in sept 12 and my husband I decided to try in jan after getting the mirena taken out after having it in for approximately 8 months, however 7 cycles no luck. Have 22 day cycle now after the iud, I'm 39 and he is 41, so this month had tests done, I'm fine even tho I have had 3 kids, 1 past away at 2 due to early birth problems, have a 16 yr and a 13 yr old, he has a 12 yr old as well, but we want one together, he has low and motility sperm issues.. however was told its not impossible, just will take a little extra time. After us together doing research came across this idea so we have tried it for the first time yesterday, will try today and tomorrow, using clear blue advanced opk, which are the best I have found. At first figuring out how to use the cups was nerve racking however it is very simple and easy, also using preseed.. so we will keep thinking positive thoughts.... Great thing is he is really on board, so will keep updated...

I promised I would review if it worked
May 20, 2013
We've been trying for almost a year after my miscarriage. I was really worried and started to see a fertility doctor since I'm 38. But I heard about softcups inadvertently watching a youtube video and did all this research and decided to give it a go. our first attempt using them after we pinpointed ovulation days using the ovulation strips resulted in pregnancy. i am now 6 weeks along and praying this will last. i inserted them in after every BD. i kept them in overnight and would take out in the morning - so anywhere between 8-10 hours. i practiced during my MS so i would know i was doing it right. i saw a tip that said to turn them inside out so the reservoir was shorter, so did that and also lubed them up with preseed since i read that sperm could die coming in contact with the latex without it.

Got us pregnant!
May 16, 2013
My husband and I had been trying for about a year to get pregnant and we had done everything we could think of. One night I decided to try these out... we were desperate. I put it in and actually went to bed and forgot about it. The next morning I took it out and seriously doubted it had worked... a couple weeks later I tested and I was pregnant!! We're getting ready to start TTC for baby #2... these will definitely be the first things we try!

1ST TIME USING...BAAM BFP!!
March 10, 2013
After suffering a m/c on 8/26/12, My husband and I decided to TTC again on October 2012. We tried everything to conceive and nothing was happening month after month. On the end of January 2013, a friend of mine recommended using a Softcup to help us conceive. I ordered more OPKs and decided to order these Softcup, after I received a POS OPK we DTD & used a soft cup right after intercourse. 9 DPO I am happy to say "WE ARE PREGNANT"! I am a big believer of this product and thank GOD this helped us in our journey. The first time using this, it might be uncomfortable, I recommend you check out how to insert it and remove it on youtube. Good Luck in your journey!!!

1 month of use and BFP
February 5, 2013
I am sooo excited to say I have no doubt that with these softcups along with the preseed we got a BFP this morning!!! We have been trying for 5 months, every month was a BFN and more and more discouraging. I read a lot about these softcups and how it helps to "hold everything in". I believe it actually works! I mean it totally makes sense, So many times the after using the restroom after bd'ing so much stuff would be on the tp. With these you can leave them in there for up to 12 hours, which I did, it keeps everything close to the cervix and holds it in there so your body absorbs it. I used it after everytime we bd'd and today about 1 1/2 weeks later) I finally got our BFP. Not hard to put in. If you are used to tampons, or know your body well, you will have no problem with these. I do not think I would use them for mentration use, but will FOR SURE recommened to anyone TTC. Good Luck and BABY DUST to all!!

These cups got me pregnant
November 20, 2012
After lots tries (and no pregnancy) and lots of research, I figured that the cheapest and most logical thing to do would be to buy these. It's practically homemade artificial insemination. When you use donor sperm without a doctor, this is what they recommend you use. But we used my husband's sperm. It was pretty straight forward. 1. Put the sperm in the cup. 2. Put the cup in the girl. 3. After however many hours, take the cup out. All of this was easy except step 3, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. The cups are larger than I thought they would be, which I would think would assist in the extraction process, but not so much. I wish they'd have a rubber "string" or something like a tampon. But anyway, we used these one night & 5 weeks later I was late & after 3 pregnancy tests I finally started to believe that I was pregnant!
Pros:
Got me pregnant!
Cons:
Difficult to take out once you've put it into the cave of wonders.

I will make sure to tell all my female friends!
October 31, 2012
At first I was nervous to use this product, the first time I used it, it got stuck and was very difficult to get out. I decided to give it another try this month and since I was a little more familiar with it, it went in perfectly and I kept it in overnight on the first day of my period. Panicking through out the night, I would constantly check to see if there were any leaks...but NOTHING! Although VERY messy when removing it, this is SUCH an amazing product! No need to change tampons during the day, or when they start leaking!! I will recommend this to ALL my girlfriends! My husband and I are planning to have a baby soon and I know what I will be using to speed things along! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Pros:
easy to insert can leave in for the whole day or night!
Cons:
Messy & sometimes tricky to remove

Was a little skeptical at first TTC#1
October 11, 2012
Well, I researched around for other fertility aids and came across softcups for mensturation. I was confused because I thought there was one for fertility and another for "that time of the month." After I learned they were the same thing, I read literally EVERY...SINGLE...REVIEW on here!! After seeing more positive reviews about getting pregnant using these, I thought, why not? My husband and I have been trying to conceive every chance we got this year seeing as that he started basic training Jan and is finally at his duty station across the country! We've only been together for about 6-7 times between Jan and Oct 2012 with about 3-4 days within those visits, so not alot of time or chance to conceive and sometimes he visited when my "time of the month was here" so literally not really alot of chances. Anyway! I just purchased softcups today and wanted to "practice" with them as most people suggest you do with them to be comfortable, and I am happy to say that I am actually wearing it now for "practice" I feel TOTALLY comfortable, no discomfort whatsoever. I was a little nervous to put it in, but no pain nothing! I preferred to lay down and not sit as the instructions recommended because I figured if I try to sit after BD'ing I may get some spillage.I'm not hesistated at all to take it out once I feel like my "trial run" is over today. I don't get to see my husband until I move up there around December time, so I will DEFINITELY be using this after BD'ing, super excited and will come back if/when I get a BFP. Wish me lots of babydust, and babydust to all who are TTC :)
Pros:
Packaging is nice, the way the soft cup feels is very flexible, application is a BREEZE if done correctly and completly relaxed, no pain or discomfort
Cons:
haven't found anything yet! Will be back with another review If I conceive!

well after a year of trying we adde using the preseed about 4 months ago, the soft cups 2 months ago, and fertilitea last month, and bam!! just got a positive. No lie, it is a gross process, but when you take it out the next day and the juice is still there it proves that it held it in. Plus it is a little hard to get out. I also tried one for the period I had and it was extra gross, but there was no odor or leaking..

Been trying for 7 years
September 11, 2012
Hello, my husband and I have been trying to conceive for 7 years, we have been through ICSI twice, unsucessful the first time, but conceived on my second cycle with FER(frozen embryo's) but miscarried at around 7 weeks. I am constantly researching ways to conceive, and well i have one more cycle left to use under the NHS, so want to try everything possible before using this last go. I have been taking Pregnacare conception for over 6 months, this helped to increase my CM, as i did used to be extremely dry and also brought my iron levels up as i am anaemic. i have also used Preseed, and have now come across Softcups, which i recently purchased from amazon so that i could use it this cycle. Have used 3 so far as i am currently on my high fertility days and ovulated yesterday. I am currently also using BBT charting, which helped me to confirm that i have ovulated this month. I would definitely recommend softcups, there is no leakage whatsoever, i pop it in straight after we you know what, and i cannot feel a thing. I wake up in the morning and it is very easy to remove as well. I have a retroverted uterus, and was worried that these may not work as great as those with a normal uterus, but whoever made these, got it spot on. I will carry on using these for the next few months and pray that it will bring me a little bundle of joy, so if you are thinking "should i, should i not" you defo should.

Second month using them

Using them again this month, a little late trying them last month. Husband has Low T, which makes doing it naturally difficult for us..so were using the insemination method. We are both 40 and have a 7 year-old ,and were hoping that we can have at least one more. I will update my progress. We are so happy we found this site... these reviews really inspire us and give us hope.

Pros:

Nothing; wish I could have gotten our BFP this month but feel pretty confident that they will help and we will get out BFP very soon!!

Did not work for me
May 22, 2012
I read about how the softcup can be used to aide fertility and I was really hoping that it would help get everything in after baby dancing, but I was thoroughly disappointed. First I had trouble get it in after practicing multiple times, then after I finally got it in, everything still leaked off the sides, and lastly, I got horrible cramps afterwards. Maybe it's just me (since I don't use tampons because it is uncomfortable), but definitely only consider this product if you are use to wearing tampons.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive since August 2011 with no luck. I came across these on this site and after reading the reviews figured I would give them a try. I ordered them last month but they did not arrive until after I ovulated so I saved them for this month. I used these with the pre~seed lubricant and voila, I got a big fat positive this month! I am not going to say that yes 100% for sure the soft cups are the reason I got a BFP but after 9 months of nothing and 1 month using them, I am pregnant!

After trying to get pregnant for 16 months I read the reviews on the soft cups and decided to give them a go. We used them 3 times around ovulation with pre seed and to my amazment we are pregnant. We already have a son and fell pregnant very quickly the first time round so thought it wouldn't take too long. We both have fertility tested and my results were all normal (i'm 41) but my husbands (he's 38) normal sperm count was only 8%. The unsympathetic consultant that we saw said I was a dinosaur and had a 5% chance of getting pregnant. Hopefully the pregnancy wil continue and I will be able to ring him to tel him the good news and that he was wrong. WIshing you all the luck in the world. Give it a go as its worth a try.

BPF First time trying!!
March 6, 2012
I am 34 (DH is 29), after deciding we are ready for kids I decided to research what is out there and what helps with conception since they say fertility starts to decrease in your 30's... I came across softcups and preseed on this site. The reviews were AMAZING!! We bought both (also ovulation and pregnancy test strips) and away we go trying for our first month! Low and behold, BPF!! (BPF 11DPO on the 20mui strips from this site!) I used about 3 of the soft cups and kept them in for 12 hours during the time I got a positive on my ovulation strips. Charting, using ovulation strips (I have irregular cycles), preseed and softcups worked amazing for us! We will definetly be using these for the next one as well! Highly recommend! ps. attached is my test at 11DPO.
Pros:
easy to use, worked fantastic!
Cons:
I would caution to use less than recommended amount of preseed. You don't need that much.

I had never heard of this product before until my husband and I started TTC our first child. We had difficulties and I was willing to do just about anything to help us conceive. I stumbled upon your website and came across these softcups. Whoever thought of using the softcups to hold semen close to the cervix after intercourse instead of using them for their intended purpose is a genius! I don't have to worry about anything leaking out. It's mess free! We're now TTC our second child and used the softcups this cycle. It's too early to test so I don't know if I'm pregnant but I LOVE these!

I take a prenatal vitamin every day and had intercourse around my ovulation days for me at the end of the month and inserted one of these right after intercourse in a upward position and layed still for 30 minutes. I got pregnant quick! I only used 3 of these. Lol I am 35 years old too. The age when they say ovulation slows down. HA You can not feel them. They are comfortable. I removed one 8 hours later. What a great product!
Pros:
Worked quick! Only used 3 out of the box and got pregnant! Make sure you know when you are ovulating and insert one right away after intercourse while still laying down! Don't move for 30 minutes. I removed one of these 8 hours later.

Worked for me
January 29, 2012
Did not take more then three months for me to get pregnant with my second. I think I started using these the second month of trying. Once I started using these I did get pregnant. I disliked getting them out, it was very hard for me. A few times I seriously thought it was stuck. I was told I had a bit of a tilted uterus after baby one, so maybe one reason why it was hard to remove? I don't know.
Pros:
Seemed to work. Easy to insert.
Cons:
Hard to get out when finished using it. Have to run to put it in after sex, can be a bit of a downer.

Worked Very First Month Using Them
January 12, 2012
I told myself that I would write a review on softcups only if I got pregnant the very first month using them... low and behold... I got my BFP today. This is a great product. I was tracking my ovulation with BBT charting, and ovulation kits, so I knew my fertile window. All we did was place one in every night after sex, left it in for the whole 12 hours, and took out. No muss no fuss. I didn't feel them in, and I didnt find it painful or uncomfortable removing them. Maybe a little mess, but that's a good thing when trying to conceive. Oh, and dont worry about blocking swimmers out... there will be plenty where they need to be!
Pros:
Got me pregnant the first month!

December 4, 2011
I love these, it makes bd'ing less messy. My husband puts them in for me and I can barely tell they're in. We haven't had a bfp yet but I don't really even know if we've been using them on the right days so I just ordered the opk strips today. Baby dust to you all...God bless!

Seriously helped us conceive!!
October 17, 2011
We suffered a miscarriage in November of 2009. This was not only devastating to us as a couple, but very hard to explain to our children who were excited. The lose consumed me, and I began to research any and all ways to conceive. I bought the ovulation tests, followed the calendars and calculators. Then in April of 2010 I read about the Instead soft cup and figured- Why not? We used it ONCE after intercourse in June, and in July I missed my period. I took a test and was surprised to find that I was indeed pregnant!! We are now the proud parents of a beautiful 7 month old boy (yes, all boys... should research more on how to conceive a girl for the next one, lol). This thing works and the FDA really should look into approving it for conception purposes!
Pros:
Comfortable Inexpensive Truly worked for our purposes Didn't have to sit with my butt on a pillow
Cons:
A little uncomfortable inserting...thought I was going to lose it up there (would have been really embarrassing explaining that to the DR.)

Worked like a charm!
September 21, 2011
I bought these things on a whim, being led to the site after looking for dietary ways to increase my chances of conception. My husband and I had been trying very casually for a year (off the pill, but not paying too much attention to cycles or mucus--all those things that TTC women really look for), but I honestly figured it would happen on its own. Well, being 30, apparently you do have to "try" so to speak. So, with that realization, I used three Softcups during the next month after receiving them in the mail, and "bam!" a positive test a week after my missed period. I am six months pregnant now. Talk about instant gratification!!! I don't know if I was having trouble conceiving or just not being diligent enough, but it sure did take the stress out of the situation. After all, at 30, there is no time like the present!
Pros:
No Drugs, No Planning, No Stress, and CHEAP!!!
Cons:
Not necessarily a 'dislike' but, they can be a little messy, and you should be comfortable with your own anatomy, or risk it falling out. Don't be scared to reach on up there! Good Luck!

want to try these
August 20, 2011
Well I am desperate to try anything that may help. I am almost 30, have one blocked tube and one specialist said the only way I could get pregnant is by invitro fertilization. We have not produced a child in the whole 7 years of trying. (of course we didnt track ovulation this whole time) Ive previously been on clomid and was tracking ovulation then. Still nothing. Since then Ive quit smoking and lost 90lbs. I recently bought ovulation tests, preseed, and basal thermometer, and fertile CM, and going to buy these too. (hubby's swimmers are good) I've started praying too. I'm hoping all this combined will help. Will let you know. Its hard not to have doubts after 7 yrs of unprotected sex and no baby. But God willing I will conceive.
Pros:
Dont know yet.
Cons:
Probably nothing if I follow the directions.

PLEASE USE THESE CUPS!!
August 17, 2011
I AM PREGNANT AGAIN YAYYY! We were TTC #2 and was having a hard time bc my cycles were crazy after baby 1!!!! I used these cups to get pg with my first, and it worked the first time I used them! I thought that may have been a fluke, but still recommended them to TTC women in case it wasn't! Now I know it was not! Since I was not able to know when I ovulated bc of my off cycles, I got the conception pack and took an ovulation test and both lines were DARK, so we dtd and used a cup. Just that ONE day and one cup and I am 9 weeks pregnant with baby 2!! I LOVE these cups and I know nothing works for everyone, but for the price, its worth a shot!!
Pros:
easy to use and when inserted right you can not feel them
Cons:
a little hard to hard to get out, but SOOOO worth it!!!!!!!

August 13, 2011
After TTC #2 for six months with no luck, I decided to give these a try, thinking it would help to hold everything in that usually just leaks out! I used these every time we BD during my most fertile period, along with Preseed, and I am happy to report that I am now pregnant after our first try using them! These are definitely worth a shot in my opinion:)

I don't usually leave a review but wanted to for other people trying and maybe having the same problem. Because of my husbands medication let's just say he can't get erect when it's necessary . When I knew I was ovulating because I used the ovulation test strips he would put his semen in the softcup and I inserted it. I did this 3 days in a row and tested today and I'm pregnant. This was the only method we used so it does really work.

Got pregnant 2nd month using this!
August 2, 2011
I received my BFP on the 2nd cycle using Soft Cups! First month trying them I inserted them right after intercourse. I felt this may not have been the best idea, though, as I was afraid I might have been trapping some of DH's valuable little swimmers OUT instead of IN. I did not get pregnant the first month using Soft Cups using this method. However, I tried them again the second month ttc. This time I laid vertical after intercourse for about 30 minutes with a pillow under my bottom and did not insert them right away. Then I inserted the Soft Cups after the 30 minutes was up. Both times I wore the Soft Cup for about 5-7 hours after intercourse. My second month trying Soft Cups I got a BFP! I do recommend this handy (and inexpensive) fertility tool! :)
Pros:
Great for keeping the swimmers in!
Cons:
A little uncomfortable to use, especially for a first timer. They were much bigger than I though they would be!

Easy to use...and effective!
July 30, 2011
After 13 months of trying, I bought these after reading all the reviews. I used one on each night that I was ovulating after sex, and today I just got my BFP! It was the easiest thing to use if you follow the instructions, and it worked! I would recommend these to anyone whose starting to look for a little help before moving on to more expensive, invasive options! Thank you, early-pregnancy-tests!
Pros:
Easy to use effective!

I used this product for trying to conceive. It was a bit strange inserting it directly after sex, it was a tiny bit big for me, but once it was in i couldn't feel it at all. Removal was a tad messy but i just got a postive pregnancy test today so i'm thinking it did its job. I'm just praying the pregnancy survives.

I was hoping that all the reviews I read were right and they definitely were. I got pregnant after the second time I used one of these, less than a month of using it after 2.5 years of trying. Sadly, I miscarried but I still got pregnant, something we didn't know was possible. Anyone who is TTC should try these if you haven't already.

Had to look
June 27, 2011
Ok, before I start I should say that this is just my own experience and is not a clinical trial or anything official. But I am a medical laboratory tech and, as such, I have access to lab equipment. Cool thing about being a lab tech is whenever I'm curious about medical stuff I don't have far to look for answers. I've been using the softcups for my cycle for a year now. I like that I can not smell any odor with them (like with pads) and my panties stay clean (sometimes I leak with tampons). This month I am also using them to get pregnant. I was worried that I was going to trap the semen outside of the cup, cause maybe the sperm would be on the base of my vagina and not on the cervix when I put it in. So I had to look for myself. I work graveyards at the hospital, so shortly before work we had sex and then after being at work for a few hours, I went to the lady's, removed it, put it in a bag and took it back to the lab with me. The first time I did this, we had used astroglide. I took samples of the fluid on the inside and outside of the cup and looked at it under the microscope. All the sperm on both sides were dead. There were plenty of them there, but no movement whatsoever. Last night, I tried the same thing, but we used preseed instead. What a difference. The semen on the inside of the cup (that would have been touching the cervix) where still moving. Of course, there were still some that were not moving, but that is expected after 4 hours in the vagina, but there where more than enough movers to get the job done. There were many in the fluids on the outside of the cup too, but there was no movement at all. So if I hadn't worn the cup, I'm thinking the ones in the cup would have all been dead too because the vaginal fluids aren't good for them like the cervical fluids are. So, maybe the preseed kept them alive or maybe my cervical mucus was fertile, but it seems to me that the fluid that the little guys swim in is really important. I've read the article that astroglide is really bad for sperm motility, which is why I got the preseed. Just thought I would share, because even if you use the product but have a bad fluid inside the cup, I dont think it will do much good. I've read that water, saliva, and any lubricant other than preseed will hurt the sperm. It would be cool if they could do a real study with instead cups used with the different lubricant options. Side note, kinda embarrassing, but when I put it in I have to be careful cause air gets trapped. The first time I used it for ttc, when I went to stand up, all the air blew out noisily along with some of the semen. That's never happened on my period. Even though this is my first month trying for a baby, I've been off bc for about 5 years and have never been pregnant, I'm only 28. I'm really regular and I know when I ovulate. I'm thinking that astroglide and a slightly low sperm count are part of it. Maybe this combo of preseed and cups will work. Good luck to you all.
Pros:
-Never leaked on my period with it -the semen stayed inside my body and with the preseed, seemed to say alive longer.
Cons:
- they are bigger than I'd like - its hard to discretely dispose of them since they are messy. I tend to wrap them in the next ones wrapper and then I still fold it up in alot of tp

Would not have my son without it!
June 16, 2011
I had used these for my period, but never had heard of them for TTC. Came across an article and was fascinated. I was about to TTC using a known donor and did not want to go through the cost of Dr. appointments and testing. Along with the Clearblue Easy fertility monitor to know when I surged, I did two inseminations a cycle using these cups. My baby boy was conceived on the second cycle. I am now TTC again (Currently in the two week wait) and again used the Soft Cup (Panicked when I went to the store to get them and realized they changed the name and packaging!) I use Pre Seed around the rim to help with insertion. Also make sure you practice several times before, as there is a learning curve. I would make sure it was not inside out, then put a bit of water in one and insert it, making sure none of the water spilled. After a while it is easy peasy! After insertion I would make sure it was properly placed. The plastic is thin enough that you can actually feel your cervix through the plastic, knowing its right where it should be! No problems taking it out. Just bear down a bit , grab the front rim and pull it down from behind your pubic bone. Then simply pull out an throw away. Never used one to keep semen at cervix after intercourse, but it works perfectly for donor inseminations! And since they swimmer get to bypass the vagina, I figure they get a bit of a head start ;o)
Pros:
Helped me conceive Ease of use Discreet packaging
Cons:
Instead changed the name to Softcup and made the purple package pink, which freaked me out. I thought they had been discontinued!

I say that this is amazing because it really holds the sperm in!! NOTHING comes out! If you take it out in the sitting position then it removes so easy, If you take it out standing then OUCH! Just giving you all an easier way sense most of you say it hurts! I guess I will let you know if I am pregnant on Monday! I am 34 really wanting one more! Used for AF now using for TTC
May 11, 2011
I recently purchased the Instead Softcup for AF and it worked pretty well. (the first time i put it in upside down and it didn't work, but after figuring that out, it worked just fine)..I had AF 5-2-2011 and ovulate early around 8 - 12 days after AF. My husband and I have used it once already and I could tell that it made a difference as there were no tell tale signs on the sheet (if you get my drift.) I'm praying that this little cup will aid us in TTC. Baby dust and angel kisses to everyone...
Pros:
Easy to insert. No Mess
Cons:
A little difficult to remove the first time. Don't pull out like a tampon straight down, pull forward and relax and it comes out easily.

I really like the instead because me and husband have been trying to conceive for over a year now and ladies you know when you are done your suppose to lay down and not move and let it do its thing but if u just sit up a little stuff starts coming out so unless u sit on your heard for the night stuff is going to fall out. Now with this after a few mins i can sit up in bed with knowing everything is staying in and plus its kinda like a ghetto IUI haha I would deff try it out now for using it for your period just sounds weird and messy but for TTC I say yes! Also I leave it in al night and then take it out in the morning and when I take it out nothing is on it and nothing comes out so i know i got as much as I could for swimmers sorry TMI haha
Pros:
dont have to lay down with your legs up forever and you can sit up with ease kowing nothing is going to come out

BFP in the 1st Month!!!! TTC Baby #3
March 10, 2011
I used this product last year in order to get pregnant fast. I got my period May 15th and on June 8th (13dpo) got a BFP unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage due to a blood clotting disorder, I didn't know I had that..we used the soft cups twice in that cycle (keeping it it all night and disposing in the morning) using OPK .. .Fast forward to 2011, after visitng the RE and getting a diganosis and the green light to concieve.... It's been 3 months and no pregnancy yet, so we tried the soft cups this month, I will update if I get another BFP, we used it with the smiley OPK and about 3 soft cups BTW: I am 31 years with low ovarian reserve w/ APS (blood clotting disorder) and DH 33 and perfectly healthy.

Worked the first time!
March 1, 2011
We had been trying to get pregnant off and on for over six years. I have PCOS and a thyroid condition, and had a miscarriage about four years ago. I bought Softcups and a basal body thermometer in December. I started tracking my basal body temperature right away, and realized that I ovulated on day 20 of a 31 day cycle. We used 4 of the 6 softcups and I took a positive pregnancy test on January 28th. I can't tell you how much I believe in this product! They really worked for me. I will be 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow and everything has been going great this pregnancy! I have been telling everyone about Softcups.

Skeptical about this, but going to try and see if it helps give me a pregnancy!
February 4, 2011
My first impression was whoa!, because i saw the size of the thing and the big rubbery ring, i was scared, and i read the reviews on here saying it was great etc and thought, okay, give it a try, at first, i didn't know how to get it in, but if you first relax, that's the main thing, it aint gonna get lost in there, its an impossibility. I have put fingers in initially to see where my pubic bone was, as it goes right behind the pubic bone, and I felt my pubic bone, now that is the place to push the wee folded over ring and let go slowly, it will unfold itself inside you just at the entrance to your cervix, which is where you want it to be of course, holding the pool of sperm close to the entrance, giving you the extra bit of confidence knowing it will hold it there till you take it out, maybe after 12 hours or so maximum. almost 2 years not conceiving led me to try this, well this is my first month TTC with soft cups and my man has ED issues and lower than average sperm count, so proving difficult in many ways to get pregnant naturally, and its not that romantic trying to fold it over and insert it after you have babydanced, but not a lot can be done about that, but its stops it being so messy if you do it immediately afterwards. Almost now at my period being due, so fingers and legs crossed. any other tips very welcome! please please let me know how many months it took for you all to conceive using this product?
Pros:
Very clean to use if you use it immediately gives confidence knowing its doing all the extra hard work after you babydance.
Cons:
no where to store it, before hand, would be good if there was a wee plastic pouch to keep it stored at side of bed. can be slightly crampy but nothing major whilst its inside. can be hard to get a grip on taking it out and slides at times because of the natural lube,

I've always felt bloated and uncomfortable with tampons, and pads feel like I'm wearing a diaper and make me paranoid and uncomfortable...although I still had to wear pantyliners, it limited my chafing that I usually get by day 3 of my period from wearing pads.
Pros:
convenient (up to 12 hours without worry) looking forward to summer no bloating or feeling full
Cons:
messy upon removal (yikes!) takes some getting used to, (putting in the right way to insure no leaks) Don't really know when to change out, (I guess that comes with experience, too.)

Amazing!
January 23, 2011
I was mildy frightened of these when I first purchased them and it took everything that I had not to take one out and play with it when they first arrived. They are remarkably easy to use and remove as well as being incredibly comfortable. I was thrilled with the freedom that they gave me during ovulation to ensure that I was getting the most advantage from intercourse. It also allowed to me to move around and know that I was keeping everything in place. I am still uncertain about using them during my period, but would recommend them to anyone who has a lighter cycle. They are definitely more comfortable than tampons.
Pros:
comfortable, extremely easy to usse

Great product - hard to get out
January 13, 2011
My husband and I are desperately trying to pregnant so I read the reviews and decided to try them. They are easy to get in and if you do it right you can not feel them and the concept is genius. However, they need a string attached them or something because getting them out is frustrating and difficult. I seriously have to position myself and push, as if i was in labor, which does push the cup out a slight bit, just to hopefully "catch" the lip of the cup once you have it then you have to try even harder to keep a hold it of to pull it out. If we get pregnant it will all be worth it. Baby dust to you all
Pros:
Cheap
Cons:
Hard to get out

keeping fingers crossed
January 10, 2011
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about a year. We are both in our early 20s, but have had no luck. I came across this site while doing research and decided we would give products from this site before spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on testing and treatment. After reading the reviews for this product and others I have higher hope that this month or next will be the month.

Painful to take out
January 4, 2011
I guess others had no problems, but I found it uncomfortable while it was in and painful to remove. I used it once and threw the rest away. These are made to collect your menstrual cycle, so the bag is quite large, and I really can't see how this can be that helpful for keeping the sperm close to the cervix. I would not recommend them myself, but if you have tried everything else, maybe.
Pros:
Price
Cons:
Size of the collection bag. Uncomfortable.

worked the first month!
December 27, 2010
These are comfortable, not irritating. Would be good for morning attempts to conceive. Easy to sleep with. Not sure what worked exactly but I got pregnant with these the first month we tried them after trying for 6 months with no success.

PREGNANT after 3 losses!!!!!!!!
December 26, 2010
First off let me say I have never had a hard time ttc until now. I have twin girls and a two year old boy. But for whatever reason ttc #4 has been a year of pain and loss. I began trying in Nov. of 2009 and misscarried that month as well as in jan of 2010 and then once more in october. 2010. but it took us 8 months to even get pregnant with the one in oct. So after three losses in a row i was desperate to try anything...So my doctor put me on clomid and progesterone to strengthen ovulation and give me a longer luteal phase. but i still wasnt getting pregnant so i remembered these softcups and read EVERY review and was still not too hopeful it would work for me....BUT after one cycle of using soft cups and preseed I got my BFP! I even got a yeast infection during ovulation which i thought would have messed things up but i think being able to use soft cups, with hubbys soilders in the softcup and inserted, made it possible for us to even try! I am A TRUE BELIEVER! I am so grateful for this product and that i just gave it a try....
Pros:
IT GOT ME PREGNANT FIRST TRY
Cons:
it was a little tricky but worth getting a BFP!

G-d bless you all for writing in w/ your success stories :)
December 12, 2010
i conceived w/ this and a little pre-seed (just enough to lubricate) the first time we used it after one year of trying to conceive. i put a new 'instead' in every night after relations and took it out every morning. we used it for 4 nights during ovulation. i was going to start clomid the next cycle if we didn't conceive. my baby is so beautiful and healthy, and i was sooooo thrilled we were able to conceive him w/ out using drugs or in a dr.s office. i think this product particularly helps if your cervical mucous is low and not ideal b/c it keeps the sperm close to the cervix after relations. best of luck to anyone trying and i HIGHLY endorse this product!!!
Pros:
it gave me my son!!!!!

Great!
December 9, 2010
I loved these softcups. I was initially worried they would be hard/weird to insert, but thankfully they were SO easy to use and worked very well! You don't feel a thing when it was inside, which was another thing that worried me. I ordered them too late to really be effective this cycle, but I am looking forward to using them for the next! Fingers Crossed!!
Pros:
super easy to use
Cons:
nothing

Still unsure
December 9, 2010
We have used the whole package and no luck conceiving but I don't think these would have helped anyway (different issues). The biggest draw back of these is that sperm can live up to 3 and under great conditions for 5 days so since these can only be left in for 12 hours I was always feeling like that one spermy that was going to get the job done was going to be stuck in the cup when I pulled it out. We probably will not order again because of that and because i just had an issue getting them to "catch".
Pros:
Being able to get up and move around.
Cons:
Possible spermies that leave with it when removed

The softcups
December 3, 2010
I think the softcups are nice and good I personaly just are not able to use them when i did i ended up with mass craps that i couldn't handle it keep up for a few days after taking it out. If wasn't for that i would use them and as long as noone else has that same problem i would recomend them to other people.

Caley for Iowa - how has this product worked for you? Or any one...can you give a follow up story. My husband and I have been ttc for about 2 or 3 months, no luck yet. I plan to use this along with an ovulation test this cycle and hopefully we'll be with child before 2011!

Worked on month 2
December 1, 2010
I used these one month and didn't get pregnant but I knew I was going to try these again the next month. Luckily they worked for me! I kept them on my nightstand and put them in and kept my hips elevated for 20 minutes. Then I went to sleep and took it out in the middle of the night when I had to go to the bathroom. I was so scared I was going to forget to take them out since you cannot feel them in you at all. Make sure you practice first when you get them so you are confident to use them when the time comes. You cannot beat the price. I still have some left. :)
Pros:
Easy to put in and comfortable
Cons:
Don't let your DH see you putting them in. It grosses them out.
