This is easier to use for me than the LH urine strips. I have yet to see the "ferning," but as I said it is still early in the game. When the strips said I was ovulating, I was able to detect the ferning pattern as the producct specified. No baby on the way yet, but hopefully soon. Tricky to learn to use at first, as you need to use just saliva, don't touch your cheeks or anything otherwise you end up with cells in the microscope viewing which can make the ferning hard to tell. I didn't use the test early enough in my cycle so the first morning when I used it, I saw a clear crystal pattern. The next morning, the crystal pattern was still there but the density was not as high, and the day later, there was no crystal pattern at all. This is the first month I use this test and so far, the experience has been very good. Pros:Easy to use. I have been using both for a month now. While I find it interesting to monitor the hormones in the saliva on the other side of the lens, I am not able to "read" it correctly, I believe, because for the entire month I did not notice anything similar to the image of the hormones in the instruction pamphlet. Meanwhile Clearblue showed the exact two days of "High" and two days of "Peak" ovulation. I continued to test the saliva and got a perfect ferning (fertile) pattern on day 18. No trace of ferning on day 19, so I actually think that in my case, ferning only showed on the day of ovulation or after it had just occured. This is still a useful product and I hope to have gotten pregnant after 1 and 1/2 years of trying... It's reusable, unlike test strips, and it's portable. Some women said that the light was too bright. If you don't look into it for more than 5 or 10 seconds at a time it's fine. It's not meant to be stared into for long periods. The one thing to look out for is lack of saliva. At first I was using too little. My cycle is normally pretty spot on so when one morning the Fertile-Focus said I was infertile I decided to test again. I used quite a bit more saliva and it then said I was in transition. Well, it worked! I am now 9 wks pregnant!Pros:Ease of use, reusability, portability.Cons:I think it may need a bit clearer directions. The surface area for viewing saliva is small and if you don't smear your sample *just right*, it can be out of effective range for viewing.After using my scope for a few months, the eye piece is getting loose (it has plastic threads that you twist to focus) because the threads are wearing out. I am having a hard time getting it into focus now. The light is also getting more dim. Once the light is out, then it's time for the trash-no visible way to replace the battery/bulb. I wish I would've just gone and bought a kids' lighted microscope. The price is similar & the viewing area would have been larger and I could've kept a sampling of past slides for comparison. Also I think the focus would be more precise and the zoom would have been greater. Pros:Doesn't take up a lot of space.Cons:The threads wear out quickly, light becomes dim after a few months. Viewing area is tiny. I think it will be great when I can be more sure of myself when reading the results on this. I started using it right away and have seen the changes, very neat and interesting, does exactly what is says, you must let the saliva dry completely because if you don't you will not get a good result reading. IAs other commenters have noted, using a SMALL drop of saliva works best. I recommend no more than 1 mm wide droplet. I found a paperclip to be an idea way to transfer the saliva, as it doesn't absorb anything. Even though i was past ovulation, I decided to continue to chart the rest of my cycle to see what it looked like. Five days later ferning appeared again and continued through when I was supposed to begin my next cycle. I am so excited to report that the mid stream tests are highly effective as well. I was able to confirm my pregnancy a day before my cycle was due to start! Thanks for all the great products! My only complaint is that there is some not so discrete lettering on the outside of the case that clearly states exactly what it is. Otherwise it could be mistaken for a lipstick case. It pinpointed the best time to conceive. We only tried it 2x this month and now I'm at 10 weeks @35 and the OB calculated that I mostly conceived on that same 7th day. You need to be really keen and patience when viewing your saliva through the lens, the fern pattern does comes out but sometimes not prominent as how it was shown in the package and in the instruction maybe due to the concentration/quality of the saliva. My ferning pattern did not correspond with the other signs on my chart so I'm not really sure about its accuracy since it is possible to have estrogen (ferning) spikes during your cycle that don't necessarily correspond with ovulation. I would suggest using this to supplement other ovulation predictors.Pros:Easy to use. Once I realized I shouldn't put it on the outside of the lens or screw off the lens, I pulled the entire black lens portion out and put my saliva on the bottom of the glass there. Duh. Now that I've figured that out, it works great. It's a very inexpensive way of testing, and you can test as many times as you want. I am combining this information with daily OPKs. Together, I feel like I'm getting a lot of helpful information. I don't get good samples first thing in the morning, but later in the day works out great. One thing I noticed was a few people mentioned that they had to test at night - this was true for me as well. I didn't really have results in the morning. After the first month of trying I had a positive pregnancy test, and am planning to go to the doc for a follow up to make sure all is true. Takes a month or two to get the hang of it but very accurate and great quality. It's been completely off my cycle in predicting ovulation and when it does say I am ovulating we have had sex and no pregnancy. I'm not sure how people have had success using it. Maybe the price should have been an indicator. If it did work then the other more expensive fertility tests would not be needed. At first I was skeptical and also worried about whether I would be able to discern the ferning patterns. But the first time I saw actual ferning, it was so obvious that all my worries vanished. I have done temperature charting and found it to be so much more labor intensive for a less satisfying result (perhaps due to the variability of my cycles). And the urine strips or electronic monitors are $$$. I would recommend to order this product first, because it will save you money in the short term, and may turn out to be the only OP product you need. I got pregnant with my daughter immediately. Within one week of receiving my test I was able to recognize peak fertility and conceived my daughter! I also used testing strips in conjunction with this to confirm. Nothing I had used prior worked like this did and I had been trying for 5 months. I have irregular cycles so this is a must have for trying to conceive. I have had no problems with using this test. It is very very basic. I just scrape the lens underneath my tounge and that works for preventing bubbles. Then I let it sit for a few minutes to dry before inserting back into the tube to view with the light. Results are clear and easy to see. Don't waste money on the expensive saliva testers. I use this test along with the urine strip tests.
