About this Company

Bahama Mama Nail Polish

A safe nail polish for pregnant women, this iridescent hot pink shimmery shade is extremely durable and long-lasting.

Knocked Up Nails Bahama Mama nail polish is better-than-spa-quality and low-toxicity* nail polish made for safe use by women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, and women with cancer.

Easy to apply (but requiring extra time to dry), you'll find Knocked Up Nails nail polish to be similar to conventional nail polishes in its texture, durability and smell, but improved in how long it lasts and its lower toxicity rating. It is a traditional solvent-based nail polish using non-toxic acetates that can be removed easily with acetone nail polish remover.

Knocked Up Nails nail polish is:

  • Formaldehyde-free (including formaldehyde resin)
  • Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)-free
  • Toluene-free
  • Camphor-free
  • Lead-free
  • Carcinogen-free
  • Paraben-free

Like all Knocked Up Nails nail polish, Bahama Mama is cruelty free, vegan, gluten-free and made in the USA by a woman-owned small business.

Knocked Up Nails Bahama Mama Nail Polish Ingredients: Butyl Acetate & Ethyl Acetate (scores of 1 out of 10 on the EWG toxin rating); Nitrocellulose (score of 1 on the EWG toxin rating); Acetyl Tributyl Citrate (score of 1); Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride Copolymer (score of 0); Isopropyl Alcohol (score of 2); Stearalkonium Bentonite (score of 0); Acrylates Copolymer (score of 2); Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer (score of 2); Benzophenone-1 (score of 4); Polyethylene Terephthalate (score of 1); Aluminium Powder (score of 5); Mica (score of 2)

*To explain the low-toxicity claim, we've researched each ingredient in Knocked Up Nails for its toxicity rating on Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database. Conventional brands such as Revlon, Cover Girl, Sally Hansen, and Rimmel have ratings from 6 to 9 (high hazard) on the database. Although Knocked Up Nails isn't rated as a brand, it would likely rate a 2 out of 10.)

About Knocked Up Nails

Created by Ashley Judge in 2012, Knocked Up Nails is nail polish made just for pregnant women, so you can be both pretty and perfectly safe.

A nail polish fanatic who tracks all things beauty, Ashley noticed the increasing number of news stories about chemicals in cosmetics, and how many of these cosmetics are especially dangerous for women who are pregnant. She was also aware that major cosmetics manufacturers aren't always as forthcoming with their ingredients, which can be frustrating for women who want to limit their exposure to these makeup chemicals.

To make it easier for pregnant women to know what's in their nail polish, Ashley created Knocked Up Nails in colors from trendy to classic and with giggle-inducing names that play on the experiences, cravings, hopes and fantasies of today's moms-to-be.

While many popular salon brands of nail polish are making efforts to remove formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP from their formulas, these ingredients and other toxins are still being found in "spot checks" of nail salons and in brands that claim to have stopped including them.

Fortunately, you can just bring your own Knocked Up Nails shades with you to your well-ventilated salon or spa for your next maternity manicure or pedicure. Your fingers and toes will be gorgeous, and your baby's fingers and toes will be better off for it.

Thanks for a safe, great polish! I was worried that this would be low quality, and that it would chip immediately. Totally not the case! Looks great, and lasts a long time. Thanks!
