Implantation Bleeding

Testing for Pregnancy >> Implantation Bleeding

Get Pregnant - 5 Essential Tips
Don’t let the name throw you off; implantation bleeding should more aptly be called implantation ‘spotting’. While you may see the term popping up all over trying-to-conceive literature, only about 20% of pregnant women report experiencing implantation bleeding. It’s something to take note of if you experience it, but be aware that even if you do not, you may still be pregnant.

So what is implantation bleeding? It is simply the bit of blood expelled from the uterine lining which occurs as the result of the implantation of the embryo. The color of the light spotting may appear pinkish brown.

When might you experience implantation spotting? Many women mistake implantation bleeding for their period. Implantation bleeding typically occurs around 6 to 12 days after ovulation - not right before your period. Also, spotting from implantation bleeding is exactly that - light spotting that stops, whereas spotting before normal menstruation turns into the heavier flow of a period.

While implantation bleeding may be an indicator of pregnancy, do not assume you are pregnant if you experience unexpected spotting. Rather, take an early-detection pregnancy test a few days before your expected period.
