    Beware of very hot water
By Marie from Pittsburgh, PA on December 21, 2011
Here I am buying my second one. Mine just broke while rinsing it in very hot (scalding but not boiling) water. I was trying to sterilize it with the hot water and the silvery part cracked.

I love that it's so accurate--I've gotten much better at detecting the day of ovulation as a result. I agree that it's a bit wide and not easily kept fully under the tongue-- I often have to hold it in place with my hand.

    Excellent product
By Lari from Utah on November 4, 2011
A few months after my second trimester miscarriage, I began using my one year old digital basal thermometer to chart my temps. After two months, I thought my thyroid was way off again, because my temps were all over the place. I've always been biphasic, even when my thyroid was low. So, I decided to buy this glass thermometer and I'm so glad I did. I used it, along with the digital thermometer and quickly learned that my digital thermometer's battery was dying. I then just used my glass thermometer and learned that my temps were staying up. My gums were also feeling painful even with regular flossing, so I took a pregnancy test on day 28 of my cycle. Sure enough, I learned I was pregnant. So excited and grateful!
    Pros:
awesome magnifier to see the temps easily.
    very accurate
    Cons:
having to wait five minutes for my temps, but it's so worth it to have an accurate temp. you can count on.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Mercury free and accurate
By jennifer from Sammamish, WA on August 19, 2011
This is the second one I've owned. I love that it is mercury free and it's very easy to read. I take my temp at 5am, its even held the temp reading until the end of the day! I've been through 5 digital thermometers and I prefer this glass thermometer. It does take some extra shaking to get down for the next use, but a small price to pay and its accuracy are well worth the effort.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Much better than digital
By Liz from Texas on July 3, 2011
I was using a digital thermometer to chart my basal body temperature and was getting really inconsistent temperatures. I bought this one because I've read that glass thermometers are more accurate. I haven't finished an entire cycle yet, but the temperatures I've been getting are much more consistent and in the correct range.
I definitely recommend this over the digital thermometer i was using.

    Pros:
More consistent and accurate temperatures than the digital thermometer
    Cons:
It's a little difficult to read and you have to keep it in your mouth for a full five minutes to get an accurate reading (I think this is typical for glass thermometers though).

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    So far so good
By V from Toronto, Ontario on May 12, 2011
Many reviews stated difficulties with shaking the thermometer down. I haven't experienced this so far. However, package says leave in mouth for 3 minutes, but if I leave in 5 minutes, my temperature gets even higher! Also, mine arrived with a big scratch on the glass which I wasn't pleased about.
    Pros:
    Seems accurate
    Cons:
Takes a full five minutes to get a read

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Very clear basal thermometer
By Happy from Baltimore, MD on May 11, 2011
I like this thermometer. I wanted a non-digital thermometer, and this one is very clear. I have been charting for a while, and this one works well.
I keep having to buy them again because I break them because it is glass, but that is my problem, not a problem with the thermometer -- Note to self -- do not shake it down in the bathroom where it can hit the sink.
Good case to hold it safely, and it is very clear and easy to read.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    happy
By becca from ohio on April 13, 2011
Works great and easy to read..
    Pros:
The letters are big so its easy to read
    Cons:
that its fat so its kind of big in your mouth

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    WRONG PRODUCT
By Joy Linsley from CHAPEL HILL, NC on March 13, 2011
Actually, I am definitely not trying to get pregnant!! I'm 75 :). I was looking for a good basal thermometer to take my
underarm basal temp for checking thyroid. This product sounded good because it didn't contain mercury, and had large numbers (& magnifier)...but it didn't go low enough. I couldn't get a reading, so had to use a different thermometer as the temp was 95.4. Sorry...I gave it 3 stars because although it didn't work for me, and didn't have low enough scale, I'm sure it is a good product.

    Pros:
No mercury - and magnifier/easy to read
    Cons:
Temp scale didn't go low enough to measure thyroid temp.

    Seems pretty accurate
By Lauren from California on March 10, 2011
My partner and I are just starting to use the FAM method to avoid pregnancy, we wanted to make sure we got a very accurate thermometer. So far it seems to be very accurate and consistent, so I am happy with it. I have used electronic thermometers in the past that give me inconsistent results, which is really frustrating! I think that it is worth the extra 3 minutes or so to know you are getting an accurate and consistent reading.
    Pros:
    Accurate and consistent
    Easy to read
Simple, no battery to worry about

    Cons:
    Shaking down the non-mercury filler
I am sometimes afraid I will break it

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Good product
By Kelly from Ohio on January 31, 2011
This is a great thermometer. It is easy to read.
    Pros:
    Easy to read. Mercury free.
    Cons:
As with all traditional thermometers, it's slower than the digital so I end up using my digital a lot more.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Excellent thermometer, very helpful in predicting fertility.
By Beth from Waltham, MA on January 24, 2011
I purchased this thermometer in October. I was experiencing irregular cycles since I stopped taking birth control pills, so I had no idea when to expect ovulation. In fact, I went for such a long time without getting my period that I thought I must be pregnant... but every test was negative. So, I decided to learn about charting fertility signs. This thermometer was the perfect tool for me: safe and easy to use. I started taking my temp the morning after I received it and was able to accurately pinpoint ovulation, when it finally happened. Thanks to this quality product I was able to track my fertility, and became pregnant the second time I ovulated.
    Pros:
    Very easy to read.
Nice that when I broke it, I didn't have to clean up a toxic mess.
    Cons:
A little wider than I expected, but I think that's to accommodate the very easy to read number markings.
It's glass, so through a little carelessness I managed to break mine, but I like it so much I'm buying another one.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Basal Thermometer
By LJT from usa on January 7, 2011
Product seems to be working well, not as user friendly as a digital model, but does the job.
    Pros:
That it is mercury free and easy to use.
    Cons:
That I have to "shake down" every day after use.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Best Thermometer Yet
    By L. P. D. from Seattle, WA on December 8, 2010
I've been required to take my temp for over a year now for my thyroid, and during that time went through about five different thermometers. The digital thermometers, while definitely more convenient because they beep to tell you when they've reached a final number, are not accurate. I could take my temperature three times in a row and get different values each time. The liquid thermometer is more accurate, and this one is great in that it is specifically for basal temperature, so the range is shorter and therefore the values are easier to read.
    Pros:
    Mercury free
    Accuracy
    Cons:
You can't be absolutely certain when it's reached the final value (unless you keep it in for 15 minutes)
Not as easy to read as a digital

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Too large & awkward for me
By Carol from Ontario Canada on November 2, 2010
I only tried this for 3 nights & gave up.. Went back to the digital.
It was too large and awkward to keep in my mouth without holding it and took such a long time to wait for the reading.
I'm sure it's very accurate but for me, not worth the inconvenience.

    Accurate. Does the trick!
By Kristin from Madison, WI on September 21, 2010
This thermometer is easy to read and use. Shake it down below 97 with just five strong shakes. Takes about two minutes to reach your temperature. It is the best I've used yet (I found the battery operated ones consistantly reading my temp too low). Only improvement I would ask for is for it to be more comfortable under the tongue. I've never found one that is. That is a developement that would make it perfect
    Pros:
    Easy and accurate
    Cons:
    uncomfortable under the tongue

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Worked great for three weeks
By Holly from Chicago, IL on February 17, 2009
I really enjoyed this thermometer for the first three weeks. Then inexplicably, the substance inside separated into sections and it was impossible to shake down. I hadn't done anything unusual with it to cause this - just had taken my temp that morning and placed it on the counter like I usually do. About mid-afternoon I was going to shake it down and put it back by my bed when I noticed it's state. I've since thrown it away because I couldn't get it back to normal.

    Accurate!
By Angie from Michigan on December 14, 2008
Very accurate and easy to read.

Bigger number display than I thought it would have, makes it easy to read. Love the case! It is very accurate. No complaints!
