The Detect5 Progressive Pregnancy Test

The Detect5 Progressive Pregnancy Test is an exciting innovation in home pregnancy testing. By measuring 5 different levels of the pregnancy hormone (hCG) on one test stick, Detect5 provides you with a more complete picture of your hCG status than has ever before been available in a non-clinical setting.

How is Detect5 different from a "regular" home pregnancy test?

Traditionally, home pregnancy tests (HPTs) have performed one simple, yet important, task: an HPT will tell you if the levels of pregnancy hormone (hCG) in your urine are above or below a single established threshold. If your level is determined to be above that threshold, a positive result is displayed and you can safely assume that pregnancy has been achieved. For example, a pregnancy test calibrated to detect 25 miu/ml hCG will yield a positive result when hCG levels in the urine exceed the 25 miu/ml level, and it will yield a negative result at levels below that threshold.

In short, a traditional home pregnancy test will tell you if you are pregnant - but nothing more. In the above example, a woman with a urine hCG level of 50 miu/ml will receive the same result as a woman with a urine hCG level of 50,000 miu/ml - two lines on a pregnancy test.

In contrast, the patented Detect5 Pregnancy Test is designed to provide you with a more comprehensive picture of your urine-based pregnancy hormone status. Detect5 actually consists of 5 different pregnancy tests on one test stick, wherein each of the tests is calibrated to a different sensitivity level of the pregnancy hormone, hCG. The five levels tested for with Detect5 are 25 miu/ml, 100 miu/ml, 500 miu/ml, 2,000 miu/ml, and 10,000 miu/ml. Here's how it works: Simply collect a sample of urine in a collection cup, dip the test stick into the sample for at least 15 seconds, recap the test stick, lay it on a flat surface, and read the results in 5 minutes! Just like a traditional HPT, two lines in a test window will indicate a positive result for that degree of sensitivity.

Why choose the Detect5 Pregnancy Test?

The Detect5 Pregnancy Test allows you to determine where your urine-based hCG levels fall at any given time within a spectrum of levels ranging from just 25 miu/ml all the way up to 10,000 miu/ml and beyond. For example, a newly pregnant woman in her first trimester who receives a positive result on the 25 miu/ml and 100 miu/ml tests, but a negative result at 500 miu/ml, 2,000 miu/ml, and 10,000 miu/ml, can conclude that her urine-based hCG levels fall somewhere between 100 miu/ml and 500 miu/ml. Subsequent testing with the DetectFive Progressive Pregnancy Test throughout a normal pregnancy would be expected to yield increasing hcg concentrations in urine.

Peace of Mind
By Denise from Ohio on January 1, 2012
I bought two of the Detect 5 Pregnancy tests. The 1st test I took at 5 weeks and tested positive in all windows except the 10000. Then I retested at 6 weeks and tested positive in all 5 windows. They are accurate and help give you peace of mind while waiting to be seen by MD. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the price. Overall, I would purchase again if I needed to. I just wish they were not as expensive, so I could buy more to keep an eye on my progress.
Pros:
Accurate
Easy to Use
Fast Shipping
Cons:
Price

Good reassurance after miscarriage but could be less $$
By Jenny from Missouri on December 20, 2011
It has been reassuring to see the higher hcg lines becoming darker when using them a week apart between 6 and 8 weeks. The lower hcg number are really useless at this point since you can obviously find out using a cheaper method whether those are increasing. It would be nice if someone could offer the 2,000 and 10,000 hcg detecting strips alone as a cheaper alternative to this item because once you get over 10,000 hcg you don't care about the other lines anyhow, perhaps just whether the 10,000 line is getting darker.
Pros:
It is the only way to measure higher hcg counts since 2,000 and 10,000 strips are not readily available. Maybe good for someone who wanted to know where they were at any given point in a pregnancy, but I think the most common use would be for someone wanting to see if their #s are going up or down.
Cons:
The price is too high, especially when all you need to see is the higher hcg results and the cartridge is a bit bulky considering you really only care about a few of the #s

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Love it!
By Donnell from Surprise, Arizona on December 5, 2011
I bought two of these tests because I won't have another beta until I am 22dpo and have had several early losses so am terrified. This is giving me some peace of mind. I am 18dpo and should be somewhere around 400 something HCG - the line on the 500 was visible, but light so I am encouraged by that.
Pros:
I loved how easy it was to use and how quickly I received it.
Cons:
I wish it would have more of a stair step with the HCG levels. It reads from 25, to 100, to 500, then jumps up to 2000. I realize levels start to increase quickly now, but I still wish it would determine some more "inbetween".

Detect5 urine HCG pregnancy test
By Sharlese from Sacramento CA on November 30, 2011
I really liked this test. Ive had several miscarriages in the past and this test decreased some of my anxiety about having a nother . I was able to checkmy levels to m ake sure they were rising acoordingly. I was happy to see they were in the same range my dr.'s blood test had me in. Of course the blood test gives a more precise but the urine test is something of an immediate reassurance when you can't wait for blood results. Thanks for such a great test.
Pros:
Quick immediate results.
Cons:
the price.

Works fine, but has inherent limitations.
By Nickieluv from NY on November 26, 2011
I bought four of these tests and have used two so far, a week apart. My first test I had very concentrated urine, and it registered strong positives up to 500. The next week, my urine was more diluted and the lines were dark at 25 and 100, but faint at 500 and 2000. If I wasn't paying attention to the state of my urine, I may have been worried to see a lighter line at 500 than I had the past week. So be careful not to take this test too seriously. It is a tool to be used along with doctor visits and monitoring your other symptoms like morning sickness etc. I think it would be best used very eary on to see levels increase up to 100 or 500. I don't think you'll see dark positives at either of the highest levels, as per the instructons, and the urine concentrations can very from day to day so it's not super accurate. Use it for fun, just not as a substitute for blood tests!
Pros:
Easy to use
Helps track hcg rise up to a point
Cons:
Expensive
Only faint lines for higher levels

I would recommend this item to a friend.

It was accurate!
By Amber from Graham, WA on October 12, 2011
I was having spotting issues during the 4th wk so I decided to get 2 of these for peace of mind. Sure they are a little expensive but worth it. Since I was continuing to spot I went to the doctor to make sure everything was ok & they checked my hcg levels & they had doubled from this test. I checked it a couple days later with one of these tests & it had doubled again. I am now 6 1/2 wks & the bleeding has stopped. One thing you have to watch for is that the lines can be super faint but is still a positive
Pros:
It shows exactly where your levels are
Cons:
The price

Good as a novelty, but dont rely on this alone
By TB from Fl on September 27, 2011
I'm fairly anxious this pregnancy because we had a missed M/C the last time we were pregnant, so I ordered these tests to get me through the first few weeks...I also was being closely monitored with blood tests, so I know how close it was to the blood HCG numbers...when my blood HCG was 500, it was perfect - the 25, 100, 500 lines all showed up clearly at the time...however, when I should have been at 2000, the 2000 line did not show up at all - I got a blood test the next day, and my blood HCG was over 5000 at the time, so in this case, the 2000 line was definitely not as accurate as it should have been. Today, I took my final stick, and it showed up perfectly in all 5 boxes...again, that one time when it did not correspond properly to what I was expecting, it caused me a lot of anxiety, but for the most part, it seems accurate once you get over that number...and it does look cool (it is huge)...the attached picture is my final stick that I took at 6 weeks (HCG was definitely over 10000 though my last monitored HCG blood level was 5000, so was nice to verify that it went up)...I can not recommend it as anything more than a novelty, but if you were taking it to see a progression, i would suggest to do them one a week instead of every few days...and it should be decently accurate...
Pros:
most of the time it detected the proper level
impressive looking
novelty
Cons:
the 2000 line did not seem very accurate

Ok, but wouldn't buy again b/c of cost
By Lacey from Nebraska on September 11, 2011
it's easy to use BUT i question on how accurate it might be? I was a little over 9 weeks along when i used this test and the 10,000 miu line should have been pretty visible and it wasnt, it was barely there! Needless to say, i freaked out for a few days. I had a dr. appointment that following friday, i was 10 weeks and got to hear the heartbeat, everything was fine. I dont really like these tests as they are so new and caused me to freak out. I will not use these tests again, i'd rather go to my doc instead. If you do decide to use this test, don't take the results to heart!! Getting a beta done and checking your hCG levels in your blood is 10x more accurate!!!
Pros:
Easy to follow directions, easy to use..comes with a cup to pee in lol
Cons:
I question on how accurate it may be..testing the levels of hCG in your urine is not very accurate to begin with...

Merchant Response:
Thanks for your feedback. Your reaction is certainly understandable. To clarify: The test is extremely accurate in terms of yielding reliable information regarding hcg levels in urine. Where confusion may arise is when one attempts to compare urine levels to blood hcg levels. Blood hcg levels will always be exponentially higher than urine levels for many reasons. Detect5 results are not meant to be compared to blood levels; that would be an apple/orange comparison. What can be informative, however, is comparing one's Detect5 results against one's previous Detect5 results over time.

Wonderful!
By DS from TX on September 3, 2011
I wanted an at-home way to monitor my hcg levels, just to ease my mind. This is perfect. Easy to use and the ONLY test I could find that actually gave me the ability to learn my hcg range (currently between 2,000 and 10,000). The peace of mind is worth any price but, it wasn't expensive! Plus, I received it three days after my order with FREE shipping. Thank you.
Pros:
Easy to read results, great instructions/inserts
Cons:
Just a little messy, you dip quite a large portion of the testing apparatus into the urine-don't forget to cap it before putting it down,

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Exciting to be able to be done at home
By KA from North Carolina on September 1, 2011
Just got these and was curious to see if my hcg had gone up appropriately, did 2 hcg at doctors office and 1 week later got these. Used 1st one today and results were quick and easy to read. Went from 2400 (at doc office) to faint line at 10,000 today so hope the lines get darker next time! So far it's easy to use and much easier than trips to the doctor!

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Very Interesting!
By Sandra from Austin on August 30, 2011
I haven't tried this yet, just bought it today, but I must say I am intrigued! As a woman prone to miscarrying (3 in last 2 years of trying to conceive) I am excited that I may now have a way to monitor my hcg increase without going to the doctor every few days. Glad a test like this is finally here! What took so long?!

Detect5 Progressive Pregnancy Test
$19.95

In early pregnancy, women often visit their doctor for a blood-based quantitative hCG test. The result of this test is a precise measurement of the amount of hCG present in the blood at that moment, typically expressed as "X" mIU/ml hCG. Urine-based tests also measure the amount of hCG present at a given moment, and a urine-based test's sensitivity is similarly expressed as "X" miu/ml hCG.

What most people don't realize, however, is that these two measures (blood and urine) cannot be compared. Blood hCG levels in pregnancy tend to be exponentially higher than urine-based levels, and with good reason. Blood contains hCG earlier in pregnancy and at higher levels than is present in urine, and blood is not subject to dilution in the same manner as urine (as a function of liquid consumption).

Bottom line: You can't expect your blood hCG report to mimic your urine-based testing results.
