Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization. Our highly sensitive pregnancy test detects hCG soon after conception (typically 6-8 days after conception, or 7-10 days past ovulation). To use the pregnancy midstream test, simply take the cap off the test stick and hold it in your urine stream. Then recap the stick and lay it on a flat horizontal surface. Your results will appear in the test window in just 5 minutes. One line in the result window means negative; two lines indicates a positive result for pregnancy. Got a negative result each time, even on the day of my bloodwork which came back with an HCG level of 75. These were supposed to detect any level >20. So I went out and purchased First Response Early Result (detect HCG levels >6.25) and sure enough it was positive. It's a little more $, but worth it if you don't have to go through the stress and disappointment I went through!Pros:inexpensiveCons:Not accurate!Great Value! It took us about 4 months to get pregnant and the ovulation tests really helped us in getting the timing right. The pregnancy tests were great, but the only downfall is that even when I was 3 days late, the second line was a VERY FAINT pink, so I was confused. Thank goodness the tests were cheap and I had a lot so I just kept testing every morning for a week and the line got darker for sure! By the time I was 10 days late there were 2 dark lines, and I went to my OB by then who confirmed the pregnancy (hooray!). We now have a beautiful 14 month old daughter and we started trying for #2 on her first birthday. Just bought some more pregnancy tests and I am already 2 weeks late, tested and got 2 dark pink lines again! Yaaay! My OB appointment with my first ultrasound is coming up in a week =) Good luck to everyone else who is trying to conceive. I really like the affordability of these tests, too, which helps when I am impatient and start testing really early (I also took tests on the seventh and eighth days after ovulation -- because I could afford to!). :) I didn't get a picture of the first faint positive, but I did take a picture of the test taken on the 14th day after ovulation. Tested several times to ensure we did it correct and no false positive (rare). False negitive is more common, but we didn't have that either! Just accurate results. We confirmed via blood test with the doctor as early as possible (I think it was a month?). Doc said it was really early to even detect in blood, but found that it was verly clear that my wife was pregnant. Perhaps this means my wife produces a lot of the HG hormone or what ever, so factor that in to our being able to detect early with this product. A few hours later I looked, and still only saw the control line. A few hours later, there was a faint line. I had taken these tests in the past and whenever there was a negative, I only saw control lines, no evap lines. So, I was left wondering the rest of the day if it was a positive test. I went out and bought some First Response and Answer tests. I tool the Answer test with the next morning urine and it was positive immediately. So, don't get discouraged if you use these tests early dpo and they are not positive. Keep testing. They are inexpensive but definitely not an early prediction test. I kept getting faint lines 3-5 days before my menses that were very frustrating to tell if they were shadow lines or real lines so I ended up buying a digital test from the drug store than gave a clear positive. After my period date came and went though these were strongly positive and easy to read....so good product for the money if you can be patient. That said, they are definitely not as sensitive as First Response or Clear Blue, both of which showed a definite positive result several days earlier than these did. Also, in the earliest stages, the positive can be extremely faint and take the full three minutes to appear, so it's easy to miss a positive when you don't know exactlywhat you're looking for. I have also used the test strips, and while they are considerably cheaper, the whole peeing in a cup thing makes them a bit of a pain, so I definitely recommend the midstream tests instead. Pros:Inexpensive. Quick and easy to purchase online. Easy to use. Easy to interpret.Cons:As above, they are not the most sensitive tests for early detection, but still a good value for the money. Even when using first morning pee and holding in stream for full 10 seconds, and being far enough along. I took a regular home test and it was clearly positive, which those tests are supposed to be a lot less sensitive. So all in all, the tests do their job for cheap, but you have to look very carefully or you may miss a positive result. I haven't had any problems with the tests. I had my first positive pregnancy test with this batch. Unfortunately a few days later I started my period. However, I recommend holding off on testing until at least the day you expect your period. My doctors are encouraging me to wait until 7 days after an expected period. Eight days post transfer my serum Hcg was 103. I did not get a positive urine result until three days later when my serum level was 201. I am guessing the urine levels are generally less than the serum levels (Could not find that info any where, anyone know the ratio?). I tried my best to have an "early morning" urine but I have been up to the bathroom 1-2 times per night. I realize that can effect the result but I never had less than a 3 hour hold. I followed the directions to the "T". Was also disappointed that the line was so faint when it is positive, which I have read that others have had a problem with as well. Had I realized that I couldn't use the "back" of the midstream like I do with the standard pharmacy brands, I would have gone with the strips. The great thing about these tests is that we were able to confirm the preganancy at 10 days past ovulation with no problems. Hands down the higher sensitivity of these tests are great compared to OTC ones purchased at local drugstores. This saved us so much money since it took several months for us to conceive. It’s a question we hear from customers all the time: what’s the difference between pregnancy test strips and pregnancy midstream tests? First, let’s look at the similarities: both styles of test measure urine levels of the hormone HCG as an indicator of pregnancy. They’re equally sensitive to 20 miu/ml HCG, and they’re equally accurate at 99.9%. The difference in the two formats lies in the way the tests are used. With a test strip, you dip the test in a collected sample of urine; with a midstream test, the test stick is held right in the urine stream. In short, it really boils down to a matter of personal preference. Both test types have a dedicated following, though we do sell more of the test strip format than we do midstream tests. |
